My Weird Dog

I realize most dogs are afraid of the vacuum cleaner.  I mean, this little machine that moves and makes a real loud noise.  And, it invades your house at least once a week (more like 2-3 times in our house). No amount of growling or barking will make it go away.

Pippen is not one of the vacuum cleaner barkers.  He is more the run and hide type.

When I start vacuuming, I will tell him to go into the other room.  He listens because he doesn't want to be attacked by our vacuum cleaner.  Apparently, it's OK if I get mauled by the machine.  He's such a good protector.

I usually save time by starting in a room where Pippen isn't hanging out.  I figure he doesn't have to move too many times (I'm so thoughtful).  When I do this, Pippen decides to run into the room that I'm vacuuming, pause and then run out.  Here I am thinking I'm doing him a favor.  Instead, he has to make a point by showing up in the room just so he has the chance to run out.

Yea.

Weird.

No, really Officer, it's oregano!

Are you even a Greek Mom if you don't have random herbs drying around your house?

It's fun to hear my children explain to their friends that those trays of drying leaves or the ones that are hanging on the wall, are oregano (or basil or rosemary).  The look on their friend's face is priceless.

I mean, who has tons of herbs drying in their house all summer long?

My children even question my herb drying.  Well, until they smell it (oregano does have a distinct aroma).

I remember going through customs on our return from Greece and the one bag they decided to search belonged to my grandmother.  It was the one suitcase that we had a hard time closing.  In fact, we had strings tied around it so it wouldn't open.  Inside was various items, clothes, shoes, drugs  I mean dried oregano (Greek oregano is the best).  I was amused that they didn't bat an eye with the dried oregano.  It was packaged in plastic like bricks.  The customs agents were more concerned with the dried Trachana noodles that we were smuggling importing.  Maybe an old Greek Grandmother doesn't fit the drug trafficking type?

Oregano is legal.  That's the main herb here in this house.  So, if you happen to be visiting my house during the summer months, you will definitely see some drugs herbs drying.

My Weird Dog

I really think he gets weirder as he gets older.  Or maybe I'm just now noticing all of his weirdness.

We have had issues in the past with Pippen breaking out of our yard through the fence.   RT has made the side yard almost like a jail cell.  It's lined with metal fencing on the inside so "someone" doesn't chew the wood fence (again) and escape.  RT even added a hook latch on the outside (because "someone" was squeezing his way out through the bottom of the gait).  (I told you he was weird)

Last week, I got a call from my neighbor.  She told me that Houdini  Pippen broke out of jail  the yard.  I was walking and was close to home.  When I get home, Pippen is hanging out in the drive way.  No.  He doesn't run away.  He wants to get out, but, then has no idea what to do when he leaves the yard.  Weird, huh?   I think RT wishes he would just run away.

A couple of days later, I'm out walking.  I turn and look across the street and see this white dog running on the other side of the street.  It takes me a minute and then I realize.....that's my dog!

The bottom latch was secure when I left for my walk.  How did Houdini Pippen get out?

"Someone" pushed hard enough on the fence and broke the latch.  "Someone" was also exhausted because he was running the trails looking for me.

RT told me I can't leave unless Pippen is inside the house.

I picture myself either never leaving the house or bringing Pippen with me everywhere I go.

Work.
The grocery store.
On an airplane.

Instead of him being a comfort dog, I will be his "comfort human."

This is all getting to be a little weird.

Pleasure Trip

Had to make an emergency doctor's appointment for myself.  If you know me, you know how much I love doctors.  So much in fact that I try not to visit them often.  Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

After suffering  enduring the pain for a couple of months and then developing new symptoms... oh, and google-ing my symptoms (remind me not to google my symptoms...I always do this and it always leads to me dying), I decided that I should probably head to the doctor.  Immediately.

RT came home to drive me.  I think he thought it was much more serious.

I found it was a result of me falling on the ice on one of my daily walks.

So, yea.  I'm gonna live.

I'm pretty sure RT was disappointed.  I think he expected some thing much more serious.  He was probably planning a big party.

And, of course, a major disappointment for you (and you) my loyal readers (the two of you).  You're stuck with me for a little while longer.

Disinvited

I was invited to a family party recently.  I put the information on the calendar and made sure all knew we would be attending and all of the important details.

Less than a week before the party.  I get a call from "the family member."  During this phone conversation, the family member made some small talk and then just went for the jugular  for the kill  into their reason for calling.

The family member brought up the party they were having.  I thought they wanted to make sure that we would be attending.  When the family member invited us, they were quite insistent that we be there and made sure that we knew that our presence was wanted at this party.  Instead, the family member went on to say that we shouldn't attend the party.  Maybe we could plan another get together?

Wait.......

Did I just get disinvited to a family party?

My own family doesn't want us around!  They probably felt they had to invite us but then realized their mistake.  They had to figure a way out, so, they decided to disinvite us.

I tried to hang on to the invitation by explaining that we were planning on attending.  How we rearranged our  lives around this family party just so we could be there.  Unfortunately, the family member was dead set on erasing us from their life  from their party guest list.

So, I guess I just want to let everyone know that RT and I are free and are able to attend your next party.  Give us a call.

Oh, and if you find that you invited too many people?  Go ahead and call us and disinvite us.  We won't be offended.  We're used to it.

Don't Want to Adult Today

There are some days where you wake up and you feel you just can't do all of those adult things.

And then your daughter tells you about what's going on with all of the girls and there you are, making a phone call to one of the parents to fill her in on what went down.

Let's hope the rest of the day gets better.
