Purse Commitments

So I was talking to a coworker the other day. She was telling me how her daughter has had the same purse since she went off to college.   The purse is getting really worn and has holes in it.  (hmm, sounds familiar)  She told her daughter to buy another purse.  Her daughter said that she liked the one that she has and can't part with it.

See, I'm not the only one with purse commitment issues!

The coworker bought her daughter a purse for Christmas and the daughter is using that purse all of the time now.  The coworker said she wishes her daughter would buy another purse and switch them once in awhile.

I tried to explain that some of us have commitment issues when buying purses.  I explained that it took me 10 years to finally break down and commit to buy a purse. *  I told her to be patient and maybe her daughter will come around and finally buy another purse.  The fact that she is using the purse that she bought her is a good sign.  If anything, she can buy her daughter another purse for her birthday (or Christmas) since she is okay with her purchases.

*By the way, it has been a couple of months now and I'm still using the same (new) purse.  I like it.  RT said that I should get another one.  I haven't started looking yet.  I figure I have 10 years to look, why start now?

The Missing Pants

RT has three pairs of jeans that he can wear to work.

Recently, RT realized that one of the pairs of his jeans are missing.  He has searched all the drawers  and his side of the closet.  He went through the dirty clothes in the laundry room and checked both the washer and the dryer.  He went through the clothes on the stairs (the kids clothes that need to be put away).

One day he was walking around checking behind the couches, under the cushions and pillows, behind the TV, under the dining room table, inside the pantry.

Me:  What are you looking for?

RT:  My jeans.

Jeans in the freezer.  Seems normal, right?

RT asked both boys to check their rooms for his missing pants, taking great pains to describe them in detail.  They both said they don't have them.

*a little side note:  The boys probably didn't check at all.  We will probably find them in Nick's room a year from now.  Nick's reply will be, "They aren't mine and I didn't known who they belonged to."

I still find RT randomly looking for his pants.  He has started looking around when we go to other people's houses or for walks with the dogs.  Like his pants decided they needed to get out more.

Me:  Have you found your pants yet?

RT:  I have a feeling that Jimmy Hoffa is holding hands and walking on the beach with Stacy Peterson and he's probably wearing my pants!

"We have to leave"

I'm not exactly sure what my children hear when I say that line.
They show absolutely no sense of urgency.  They don't move.  I'm not even sure if they hear me.

"We have to leave now."

There is a little urgency in my voice and still no movement.

"We have to leave......NOW!"

A lot of urgency in my voice.  Little, if any, movement from the kids.

"Get down here.  WE HAVE TO GO NOW!"

We're getting down to the wire and my child(ren) will slowly walk down the stairs.

child:  Did you say something?

Me:  Yes.  We have to leave now.

child:  Why?  Where are we going?  I didn't know we were going anywhere?  Why didn't you tell me we had to go somewhere?

I quickly get in the car.  They slowly follow.

This whole process can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes.  The aggravation level can be quite high (for me) and I wonder why I'm late sometimes when driving them places.

In the car I hear, "why did we have to leave so quickly?

Me:  Because we are supposed to be there five minutes ago.

Child:  Why didn't you tell me sooner?

My two cents worth

Found two cents on the trails this morning. First money I have found this year. Might have to change my route.

Shorts

I'm not sure where to start on this one.

Nick has been complaining that Alex takes his clothes. If I put them on the stairs (they have to put away their own clothes) then Alex will (accidentally, I think) put on something of Nick's.

I need to jump in here a minute and let you know that over the years, Alex gets all of Nick's hand me downs.  Well, not so much anymore.  They are both in men's sizes.  No more passing down clothes.

If you listen to Alex's side of the story you get a different perspective. Alex thinks Nick says these things because he is wearing Nick's hand-me-downs.  He thinks Nick sees the clothes Alex is wearing (the ones that don't fit Nick) and wants them back.

Nick said that there is a pair of shorts that he had a couple of years ago that he got to wear for a week when he was in Florida.  He said it was a great week that he had with these shorts.  Once he got home, they disappeared and have not surfaced.   He believes Alex has them and has been secretly wearing them.

Last night things got heated up because of the shorts.  Alex got up from dinner and took the shorts off and threw them at Nick, who then said that he didn't want them anymore because he (Alex) wore them.  I believe the exact words were, "I don't want them because his butt was in them."

The shorts did get taken (by Nick) and were quickly put in the washing machine.

They are in Nick's possession.

For now.

Happy Birthday, Newton!

Newton turned twelve yesterday. His golden birthday. We had cupcakes to celebrate. Newton's wish of Pippen going away has yet to happen.

Moving On

Alex has graduated 8th grade.  They call it "Moving On" over here.  I'm not sure if it's a politically correct thing or what.  I call it graduation.

I can't believe he is going to be in high school in the fall.  Time sure goes by fast!

I hate Ironing

I don't think there is an explanation needed.

Does anyone enjoy ironing?

I remember my mom would let me iron.  Little things.  Well, mainly my Dad's hankerchiefs (they were clean.....I hope?)  I think she was preparing me for a life of ironing.  Trying to get me to love it.  She never liked doing it.  Maybe she wanted me to take over her ironing?

I work with a couple of people that say they do not own an iron.  I don't think I would survive without an iron.  I have to hang a lot of clothes.  Good for the environment and good for my marriage.  <I'm married to a tall guy.  Hard to find tall man's clothes.  When clothes shrink (if they are not a tall size), they shrink in length, not width.  I learned this the hard way when we first got married.  Now, I have tall kids, so I just hang a lot of clothes.   Saves on my dryer and benefits the environment.

Some of the clothes that I hang need a little touch up with the iron.  (it's the hanger's (the person hanging the clothes) fault)  If you just pull them out of the washer and hang them, they will be wrinkled.  You have to give them a little shake.  Sometimes I'm in a hurry and forget.  That's where the trusty iron comes in and saves the day.

I can only iron about 5 or 6 things at one time.  Any more and it pushes me over the edge.  I try to stay on top of it otherwise there is an ironing pile up.

Today I had to iron Alex's clothes for graduation and thought I would share with everyone how much I hate ironing.

Scary Journey's Month in review

It's that fun time again!  Google search words!

A lot of my search words were for Girl Scout ideas and led to posts like Panera Bread tour or a specific badge.  I thought I would just share the amusing ones.  Unfortunately there were only a few this month.  I guess that means I have to start writing more...

Here they are:

Taking scary journey

That's what we are doing here...taking a scary journey inside my life

Thank you for being my m & m

My teacher appreciation post.  People must have been scrambling for ideas for gifts for Teacher's appreciation week.  I had quite a few hits.  I also had some hits for coaches gifts.

Making hats out of construction paper

I had to look this one up.  When did I make a hat out of construction paper?  This one is an image for my witch's hat that I made one year for Halloween.

scary pictures you don't see at first

Yea.  That one confuses me a little.  It's a scary journey here.  I do post the usual scary pictures once in awhile (messy kitchen counter, pile up by the front door, etc.).  I guess everything I do here is just scary so I shouldn't be surprised at this one.

I had quite a few searches for girl scout badges and bridging ideas.  Hope I helped some people.

I'm hoping to have some amusing searches for next time.

Stay tuned.
