Parties

Isn't funny when you have a party or people over, you go to great extents to fix and clean up your house?  The house looks so nice that you don't even want to have anyone over because then it will get messy/dirty.

Company also creates a "little" tension in the house.  Well, it does in our house.  The stress, everyone is cranky, trying to get things just right.  And, there is usually a HUGE blow up right before the first guests arrive.  Which is always pleasant because you want to kill your spouse but you have to be nice and act like you like one another.

We are having a party on Saturday and once again, I'm not sure our marriage is going to survive it.  It's been a good run, honey.  We gave it our best shot!

Voice Mail #e!!

Do you ever try calling a company and get stuck in their voice mail system?  They ask you questions about your call so they can direct you to the right person.  Some questions are yes or no and some you have to say one of the words they want to hear (and sometimes none of them relate to your reason for calling).  After 10 minutes of these drilling questions, you get frustrated and hang up, or worse, the system hangs up on you and you have to call back and start all over again.  This could go on for hours (or days).  Sometimes you have to try to send an email to the company explaining that you have a problem and can't get through their phone system.  The best part is when they finally answer, or while you are on hold, you hear, "We are always here to help you."  If you're there to help me, why can't I reach you by phone?  Instead of the crazy voice mail system, why not have a human answer the phone?

I wonder if anyone has done a study to figure out how much time we spend stuck in voice mail systems or waiting on the phone for help with something.  I'm sure it's several years of our life that we spend waiting or wandering through various voice mail systems.  I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they cause gray hair.

We had a problem with our internet not too long ago.  The company told me to go online to get some help.  I said, it might be difficult to do, since I don't have internet access.

Companies should add a feature that directs you to an operator or help desk.  If your problem is not on their voice mail system, you can reach a human and they can put you in touch with the right person/department.  Possibly saving you a few hours of your life, so you will have more time to go somewhere and wait in line.

Speed Limit and Age

Growing up, you look at the speed limit signs and think they are big numbers, especially when you get on the highway.  And now they have raised the speed limit on highways to 70 (so you can go faster).

I was a passenger and noticed that my age and the speed limit are the same number.  I thought it was a little strange.  There is my age and we can drive that speed.

It made me think about that part of Jerry Seinfeld's routine, about being able to drive at the speed of your age.  "If you're 70, you should be able to drive 70."

Bad Day Time TV

While visiting the dentist office the other day, in between my blog post writing spree, I was lucky to watch the television they had blaring in the waiting room.

I tried watching a show (a talk show with hosts that I've never heard of and who shouldn't be hosting a talk show) and wondered why this show is even on TV?  The hosts have no enthusiasm for their guests or topics they are discussing.  In fact, they are acting bored.  It's like they are telling you not to watch this show.

You would think, after all of these years, they would have developed some shows that could air during the daytime hours.

Wait.  Scratch that.

I'm not a big TV watcher, so, I'm not sure why I'm the one who has to bring this topic up.  But, I remember days when I worked and I was home, sick, and wanted to watch something on TV only to find bad TV.

I guess that's why Netflix was invented.  So you could avoid the bad daytime television.

Oh, yea.  And golf.

Give me a thirty minute wait time at the Dentist's office and I can whip up  a few blog posts.

Nothing to Eat

Schools out and the kids are home and, guess what?  We have nothing to eat in the house.

Yes.  I go grocery shopping at least once a week.  I even make extra trips during the week if we need other items.  But, if you ask my kids, they will tell you that we have no food in the house.

A few posts back, I talked about the grocery list Nick put on the cork board in the kitchen.  By the way, o one has added stuff to the list since my last post.  To me, that means I must be buying enough of what everyone wants to eat.  In reality, or the kids' reality, there's still no food in our house.

I recently posted another list to the cork board.  I will be pointing it out to everyone, making sure they know that it's there.  Let's see how long it takes to get filled up.

Life without Internet

Ever since RT's harebrained yard work project in the heat severing the Internet cable, life has been a little strange.

The first day seemed OK, until I realized that I needed to download an app and couldn't do it without wifi.  A quick trip to Panera solved that problem.  Bella willingly went along for the ride (and the free Internet).  We of course had to buy something.  Didn't want to appear like we were there just for the free wifi.

Alex attempted to fix the cable.  After hours of trying to get it all together, it didn't work.  That's when RT said he might have cut the cable a few times (yes, he did).

Day two of no Internet was a trip to the library.  Free Internet.  Books to read and movies to bring home to watch.  We even brought out the board games!

Day three the cable guy appeared and fixed the cable line.  He even switched out the modem so our Internet will be faster.  Oh, and threw in a remote control (since the one in the basement somehow magically disappeared).

I think we did pretty good without Internet and cable.  There were no injuries or fights and everything is now back to normal.
